Our society has developed over the years different stereotypes that we usually identify and accept without any inconvenience, such as the fact that practically all men flee from commitment or at least have a tendency to do so .However, these stereotypes crumble when circumstances change.
Is it true that men always run away from commitment?
According to the concepts of Charles Darwin , men have a tendency to promiscuity with the aim of guaranteeing offspring. In this sense, men tend to accumulate a large number of sexual partners , while on the contrary women yearn for a stable and monogamous relationship .This theory is being dismantled by a group of researchers from University of Utah , United States.

The researchers focused their studies on a group of Makushi Indians in Guyana. In this society conditions tend to be different, for what the results are too.Makushi men are much more likely to want to commit to a single woman than their peers.
In order to reach this conclusion The group of researchers conducted a series of interviews with more than 300 Makushi men and women between the ages of 18 and 45.All participants were in rural communities in a proportion of between 90 and 140 men for every 100 women.
In addition to the traditional interviews, the researchers also used the test known as “Inventory of Social and Social Orientation” .The goal of the latter is to know the preferences sex of individuals in terms of their degree of commitment, that is, knowing which of them preferred to have sex with or without commitment.

The results were very revealing, since they showed that men Makushi preferred to have sex without compromise , which goes from the hand in hand with the stereotypes of our society, however, this situation changes when there are fewer women available , in that case men prefer to engage regardless of the age of the woman. On the other hand, the women interviewed They showed indifference to the hypothetical changes.
The study leader, Ryan Schacht , explains to the Royal Society Open Science , that the results of this This study shows how stereotypes can change according to circumstances. In this sense, men are more interested in sporadic sexual relations as long as there are enough women available .Instead if there are fewer women, those same Men prefer to commit to only one and thus have a stable and secure relationship for longer.
