The giant solpugids of Egypt, better known as Aranas Camello, are an order that derives from the arachnids native to the deserts of almost the whole world. However, although it is known as the Camel Spider, it is not even an arana. How? We tell you!
Meet the Camel Arana and its legend!
The camel arana is not a proper spider, is part of the arachnid group, but it is actually a solpugido .It is believed that there are about 1,100 species of camel spiders, most of which have not yet been studied, since this is a somewhat complicated task: because they seem to wilt when taken to laboratories and must be observed directly in their natural habitat.

The camel aranas have had very bad press, especially when videos circulated on the net during the war from Iraq of 2003, where it was said that they were bloodthirsty animals that attacked sleeping soldiers and even many photographs were shown in which they looked like spiders half the size of a man. I paint them like huge poisonous predators, which I could reach the speed of a human being and eating the stomach of camels and soldiers while they slept.
First, they are not too big (they are only 15 centimeters long), nor are they so fast, or they are, but only in comparison with other arachnids, reaching 16 kilometers per hour.
On their diet, camel aranas are not especially lethal to humans ( although its sting is very painful) but they are cruel predators that kill and eat everything from small rodents and reptiles, to termites, wasps, beetles and scorpions, spiders, even other solpugids .For this, they have large and powerful jaws, of the size of up to a third of the length of their body. They use them to reduce their victims and turn them into pulp with a movement that crushes them or cuts them like a saw.Camels are not poisonous, like scorpions and spiders, they use their digestive juices to liquefy the flesh of their victims and thus be able to absorb their remains better in the stomach.
Solpugids are excavators that usually only they come out at night, in fact, their name in Latin means “those fleeing from the sun.” During the day, they prefer to hang out under rocks, cows or in underground burrows.
There you have it, have you heard of them? What do you think? Tell us!
