If you are one of those who believe that your adorable and faithful pet never, ever lies to you or deceives you, then you will be interested in this research carried out by a team of researchers from the Department of Experimental Studies and Biology Evolutionary of the University of Zurich .This study was published in the Animal Cognition newspaper and has raised a lot of controversy. We explain more about this curious investigation.
Can dogs lie to us or deceive us? ? Yes and they do better than good
This research led by Marianne Heberlein, studied 27 dogs based on a premise pre-developed by the team: Are dogs prone to lie to their owners and try to deceive them When do you want to get your own benefit? It had always been believed that the dog was unable to lie but the results would surprise you.

To reach a conclusion, the researchers assigned a sausage or dog biscuit to each of the subjects.Next, they proposed to place two women in front of a bowl with food. One should be the generous one and the other the selfish one. This was achieved by calling the dog, caressing him and then doing the same; while the one who had to be generous gave him a reward, the other kept it.After several repetitions, obviously, the dog was heading towards the person who knew he was going to give him his reward . Of course, it didn't have to be your favorite reward (one had sausages-the antipatica-and other dog biscuits) .

The dogs were then trained to learn how to go to one of three boxes (one empty, one with cookies and another with sausages) arranged in front of them. They should lead one of the women to her favorite jelly after several attempts in which they learned in which box was what they wanted most.In the end, almost 80% directed the generous woman towards the box with the favorite jelly bean.As far as the selfish woman is concerned, only 20% took her to her favorite jelly bean. However, she was directed towards the jelly that she liked least or towards the empty box.
The results of the experiment
The conclusions reached, finally, the researchers were that the dogs know how to hide the truth from those people who are not friendly to them.Yes, the dog would arrive at the following reasoning: »Why should I tell that selfish person where the most delicious jelly is if I can't get it?».

In a way, it would be something like hiding the truth from the person so that he doesn't know where the best is gominola. In short, "I win, the selfish person loses."
