If the outer space seems intriguing to us, the earth does not remain behind because even if it is our house for millions of years and we believe we know it, it still hides many mysteries that we are not yet able to decipher as is the case of the operation of the Earth's Magnetic Poles. What is its usefulness, how do they work, and how do changes in them affect us? These are questions that we will now try to answer.
Earth's magnetic poles, will they change soon?
The functionality of the Earth's Magnetic Poles it is to keep us safe from the inclement weather coming from space, such as solar radiation, creating a kind of invisible shield. They are also responsible for maintaining the balance and position, a little inclined, to the Earth. But far from that perhaps we can imagine the position of the Magnetic Poles itself, it is not always the same but that it is changing moving even to exchange the north with the south, that if always staying perpendicular to each other.

The mechanics used by the Magnetic Poles themselves to carry out their activity are not only studied , but also of controversy, being the most accepted theory by the scientific community that the Magnetic Poles behave like the magnetic dipoles , which would be something like facing two macroscopic magnets, which as we said, they do not remain static. Is it dangerous then that they move, can they unbalance the earth in some way? When the Magnetic Poles are in motion the magnetic field that exists between them is altered producing a weakening in the protective shield with which they wrap the Earth, the radiation defense falling by up to 10%.

Establishing when the Poles are going to move , to take appropriate measures, is not an easy task since these movements occur quite irregularly , the last complete investment was given 780,000 years ago, although more recently, in 2003, there have been small oscillations known as the Halloween Storm that caused power outages, interruption of satellites, communication systems etc.And that was only a minimum variation. This gives us clues of what you would expect if a complete inversion of the Poles is verified. The reason that all this happens is that the movement of the poles compromises the protective shield by that the magnetic storms can seriously damage our power lines, GPS systems, Internet, heating, air conditioning...causing the loss of billions of euros.
Hopefully then do not occur one of these movements before we are prepared to shovel the effects derived from it.
