If by chance you are traveling through the southwest of that vast territory that is China, you will find a unique landscape, an amazing beauty and a truly unique geology. We will talk, of course, about the place where a strange forest grows: the forest of ten thousand hills.
The forest of ten thousand hills
In a rich agricultural area, in an area of deep ravines whose walls are dressed in spectacular waterfalls, you you will find a landscape as if it came out of the most warming imagination, every fantasy, surrounded by a mist that increases the sensation of being on a stage outside the world. It is a small village, isolated from what we know as civilization, nestled in a valley surrounded by hills-literally ten thousand hills-whose height varies between 700 and 2,000 meters above sea level.
It is Wanfeng , known as the forest of ten thousand hills , in the village of Xiawutun, a population that seems to have been parked in time; located to the southwest of the province of Guizhou-the same province where Moutai is, the city-factory of the homonymous liquor-, is home to the minority ethnic groups Miao and Buyi .
Traditionally agricultural, Xiawutun has always been the barn of Xingyi, the city under whose jurisdiction it is managed, due to its natural conditions that favor agriculture.Until 2002 they lived exclusively on what they took from the land, but the economic needs forced them to choose: either they continued to work the land hard or they changed the course. They decided to change the course and, thanks to the spectacular surroundings and the forest of ten thousand hills, Xiawutun became one of the most successful villages in China where rural tourism is practiced .

It is the geological national park of Xingyi, n so named in 2004, that 364 million years ago it was an immense sea. Then, 84 million years later, the land block rose and the mountains appeared, which with the heat of the sun and the wear of the rains, the effect of the dioxide Carbon and organic acid eroded the original limestone, allowing cracks, small hollows, underground rivers, lowlands, hot springs, lakes, Carotica grottos and the forest of ten thousand hills to form. Its surface is the largest in China , and the connoisseurs call it “stalagmite land museum”.

Surprising the landscape when you arrive, because this forest forms strange and capricious figures according to the height and appearance of its hills: some look like dragons dancing, other swords upright , those from beyond look like monks sitting in a contemplative attitude, those others look like an army...
Already the famous Ming dynasty geographer, Xu Xiake , had described this wonderful place as follows:
“An immense forest of hills that extend over a length of several thousand kilometers. There are many hills in the world, but only those here form a forest."
The ethnic groups that have their home there decided to show its culture and its surroundings, its popular habits and its extraordinary forest, and thus they face thousands of tourists who seek to be religious with their roots, or simply admire and enjoy the landscape and peace that exudes the hills, the calm river, the ancient stone bridge and the green fields where it is still planted.

A place that you should definitely visit before you die.Like the Forbidden City, which we also invite you to read on our page.
