When we visit ruins from other times or cultures, a chill runs through our backs. What would those stones have seen? Who inhabited those places? If the remains also belong to constructions that have remained underwater for a while , it is still more impressive. The stones are stained with a skinning patina that sometimes cuts the breath. In Science Daily Online we have shared disturbing places on our planet, this time we want to approach 5 buildings that, after spending years under water, have emerged .
Colonial church in Chiapas
This church was submerged by building a hydroelectric dam.It is the second time that emerges since the construction of the Nezahualcoyotl dam in 1966 .This has occurred as a result of a major drought. The dam, also called Malpaso, is fed by the Grijalba river.
The church is impressive. It was built in the 16th century by a group of monks led by Fray Bartolome de las Casas.
Villa Epecuen
The city of Epecuen was a tourist village located very close to Lake Epecuen in Argentina , about 600 km.southwest direction of Buenos Aires. The lake has a salinity that only exceeds the dead sea.In 1970 there lived about 5,000 people who were mainly dedicated to tourism that goes to the spas and hotels. In 1985 due to the rains, there was a flood that broke a dam and the city flooded .From there the waters were gaining ground until completely submerge the city .
As of 2009, the waters began to recede and the city emerged from the waters. No one came back to live there, except for an old man.
The landscape is chilling and more if we take into account that the building that has best been preserved, after almost 25 years under water, is the municipal slaughterhouse.
Green Lake (Gruner See), Austria
In this case it is not a town or a building that emerges but a public park , with benches, and bridge included.During the winter the lake is only 1 or 2 meters deep and its surroundings are used as a park.
When the thaw arrives, reaches the depth of 12 meters .The area and the lake of green waters are of great beauty and many hikers camp on its shore. It is in Styria, in Austria .
The gothic church of Lake Uribante in Venezuela
The church , belonging to nearby Potosi, was submerged in 1985 .A reservoir was created in Tachira, Venezuela , called Uribante. The waters left only the cross above of the bell tower.Approximately 20 years later , those waters began to withdraw, revealing first the bell tower .
After half church .
At the end the whole church and the surrounding fields.
The images are stunning.
