We would love to be able to show you a photograph of his face, and that his face will speak for itself before all the suffering experienced, and the sensation that today, must house his heart. However , the man who is considered the loneliest person in the world , is very elusive and nobody can communicate with him because we don't know what language he speaks.
We are in the Amazon rainforest, specifically in the state of Rondonia and in a region of Tanaru, where time and modernity have wanted to go through the savagery of who thinks he is owner and lord to change an entire ecosystem, a whole way of life, and steal each of the rights of the Indians of the wonderful Amazon rainforest.
Let's talk today of a story that, without a doubt, should invite us to reflect.
The man with the hole, the last of his people
As explained to us from the National Foundation of the Indian (FUNAI) to this day there are many tribes that continue to inhabit the Amazon rainforest with their relative hermeticism .They continue with their lifestyle but in very scarce territories, gradually condemned to disappear.
This is what should have happened to the "pit man". An elderly person as elusive as mysterious. He has been seen many times, and almost always , hidden in a hole that he digs in the ground.Hence his name, hence it is for everyone "the man with the hole." And why does he do it? You may wonder, why dig the earth and enter it? He does it to hunt, and to hide, to feel safe.
Every effort to get close to it is very complicated, and when it has been achieved, nobody has been able to know what language he speaks. From FUNAI we They say that it is most likely that he is the last of an already extinct social group, that his tribe has disappeared, and that today, he continues to survive as did his own .
It is known that it stores water in pumpkins, that it uses a torch made with resin and that feeds on nuts, cassava, papaya and corn. It usually collects these foods always from night, and during the day it is isolated in its «holes» often protected with sharp sharp branches.
One of the most accepted theories about the« Man of the Hole »is that his people were victims of the cattlemen, those who not too many years ago, wanted the lands of the natives for their exploitation. It is known for example that in 2009 some men tried to kill our protagonist.Cartridges were found in the vicinity of their refuge, and the guards responsible for protecting the balance of these areas , they lived in their own skin the clear discontent of the farmers, who once again did not see with good eyes that that little Indian, had for the about 8,000 hectares.
And What is the situation of our stranger from the territory of Tanaru today? From Funai it has been decided not to disturb the man with the hole again with more approaches or attempts to establish contact with him.He has been given 3,000 hectares more to expand the protection zone in the environment that serves him of life, and where not long ago, their people lived.
Today is ghost territory, land of memories for the loneliest man on the planet who, surely , does not quite understand the why of that massacre, the why of that animadversion towards them...Something that makes us think and wish above all, to continue respecting their rights and their way of life above all.
Do you agree?
