Are you one of those people who does not resist the click that someone makes when eating, that is irritated with the sound of a yawn, with the noise that is made when sipping a liquid or that produced by a coughing attack? Perhaps you have a neurotic personality or an irritable and somewhat antisocial character, or perhaps it is something physical, which you cannot avoid and that since the beginning of this millennium has a name: misophonia .
DO NOT make that noise! Do you suffer from misophony?
The misophony is called the inability to withstand noises such as those mentioned above, which become extremely irritating and end up generating anger and even violent attitudes.to other psychiatric disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorders or posttraumatic stress, but also present alone. These reactions tend to generate discomfort in the affected and those around him, favoring his social isolation and a strong sense of guilt, as it usually occurs especially with people belonging to the affected environment, family and friends.
It is an evil whose effects can increase to the point of causing those affected to begin to have aggressive responses before annoying noises occur.
They were investigators and husbands Margaret and Pawel Jastreboff , from Emory University, who in 2002 created the term misophonia (hatred or phobia of certain sounds) and defined this evil as a neurological disturbance.Experiments carried out later, such as Arian Schroder's , from the University of Amsterdam, have confirmed some elements of this disease, although the discussion continues about whether it is a neurological disease or a psychiatric disorder.
Misophonia should not be confused with another disease, hyperacusis , in which patients suffer pain from sounds apparently innocuous to most.Researchers believe that each of these diseases affects different areas of the brain .
Returning to misophonia, there are still no medical treatments with drugs, only therapies so that patients and family can handle the situation .These therapies do not eliminate the disease, they only help make it more bearable.
But the fact of being recognized as a disease has been a relief for those who suffer from it, because they thought they were going crazy or being bad people.Currently there are pages and support groups in several countries , and a greater understanding towards those affected by this curious condition, less rare than one might believe.
