In Science Daily Online we have asked ourselves, through a TEST, whether we would survive a shark attack. It is well known that these creatures are very ancient, so much that they lived with already extinct beings, but worthy of a nightmare: dinosaurs.Of all of them there is one that, if you saw the movie Jurassic Park , stands as the most fearsome , of titanic proportions and with the most chilling jaws you can conceive. If, friend, we speak of the Tyranossaurus Rex, the king of the Cretaceous.
T.Rex a murderer you could run from?
If you have had the opportunity to see any of the films-sequels, paracuelas, spin offs...-of J urassic Park , surely you have asked yourself: How have they done to give that beast a corner, that hungry T.Rex? What speed should it reach? Would I have devoured myself if I was the one who goes out of his way to avoid his teeth?
First of all we have to highlight that, in fact, any answer that we can give is a non-definitive approximation, since there are always missing variables that could affect the calculation, however, if studies have been done that have tried to be as accurate as possible and have practically managed to resolve the mystery of the speed of T.Rex.
Fossil calculations and a responseA group of scientists of the University of Manchester (England, United Kingdom) have collected information on the fossils found of this species and turned them into a computer. From these data, they were able to estimate that muscle mass would have this dinosaur, according to its proportions, and from this they have made a calculation of what its speed would be.
Verdict? At first they made it clear that T.Rex was not by far the fastest dinosaur. In fact, the fastest was the Compsognathus (the size of a chicken), which could move at 64 km/hour.And the T.Rex ? They estimate that at 29 Km/hour .
And the human being? If you look at the fastest man, Mr. Usain Bolt, his record is at 44, 1 km/hour in a 100-meter sprint.
He could escape, but what about a more ordinary person ? The average is in 24 km/hour , so if you are in the «athletic» average and you make a race with a T.Rex, you would lose .
Other factors to consider in our escapeEye! T.Rex may beat you if we speak in purely numerical terms , but don't we run any more when our lives are in danger? It's not like we're going to do a friendly running session with the carnivorous king of dinosaurs , right?
The Manchester researchers stressed that our size, much smaller than that of our predator, would give us many advantages .Despite being less rapid than his, his movements they would be much slower, due to their dimensions (imagine what effort to move all that meat!).Thus, while he turns to look for you, surely you have already moved away enough to have any chance to leave him back or hide.
Let's say he finds you, that you have nowhere to hide, you still have a chance, since surely would be exhausted before you, has to move much more mass.you also get tired, agility It's still on your side. You could try a zig-zag, spontaneous address changes and all kinds of dismissals that he wouldn't be Fast enough to follow.
Finally, highlight again how small we are compared to this beast. If we give him problems and get away enough, do you think he would insist on devouring you? Would you relentlessly chase a canape , if you have at your disposal a full fridge much closer? Probably not.
So, decidedly, you have a lot more chance than you thought of surviving a T-Rex: you could escape it.
What do you think Would you like to live in a "Cretaceous" environment?
